What Styles are there?

As an independent Audiologist, we are able to offer a wide range of hearing technology from many hearing aid manufacturers.

How do I know which one to choose?

In your appointment we will discuss lifestyle, hearing needs and more to identify which brand and hearing aid style would best suit you.

RIC (Receiver In Canal):

These hearing aids can also fit most types of hearing loss. By changing the component at the end of the receiver, it can be an instant tip or a custom dome, specially made to fit your ear canal, to help keep sound in the ear.

The difference between BTE and RIC hearing aids is that the BTE has the microphone, processor, and speaker located behind the ear, while in the RIC, the part behind the ear serves as the receiver and processor, with the speaker positioned inside your ear canal. This setup places the sound closer to the eardrum, optimising sound clarity and quality.

BTE (Behind the Ear):

These hearing aids can accommodate all levels of hearing loss because they can be fitted with thin, hollow tubes for mild losses or different styles of ear moulds, allowing sound to be directed into the ear.

CIC (Completely in Canal):

These can be made in various sizes, ranging from those that fit completely within the ear canal to rechargeable models that sit within the concha bowl.

However, these may not be suitable for all levels of hearing loss due to occlusion. What do we mean by this? If you talk and place your fingers in your ears, you will hear your voice as though it is coming from within your head.

For individuals with mild or moderate hearing loss, occlusion can be an issue if the hearing aids cannot be made with a large enough vent hole to allow the pressure created when talking and chewing to escape from the ear.

Instant Fit:

These are suitable for mild to moderate hearing loss and are fitted with instant tip domes or sleeves. Custom tips may be required as your hearing loss changes over time.
